Ace Hardware is a titan among tool retailers. The business started in 1924, and the franchise was incorporated in 1928 after its three owners wanted an easier way to get great prices on tools (just like Tools.com). They pooled their resources and bought tools in bulk to save money, eventually opening their own store.
Today, Ace has over 100,000 employees and 4600 stores in the US alone, with at least one in every state. Their focus and legacy is not only on providing a wide array of terrific tools by respected brands, but also in assisting the customer if he or she has tool- or project-related questions, thus earning its slogan, “The helpful place.”
Fun Fact: Ace lends its namesake to Ace fighter pilots in World War I because they were deployed as the best of the best, and whom were expected to (and did) “overcome all odds.”
