CHANNELLOCK
Since 1886 when it was called the Champion Bolt & Clipper Company, Channellock has been family owned and operated. George B. DeArment, the first of six DeArment generations to run the company, started hand forging farriers' tools. During the winter he would literally hammer out his wears. When summer came, he would travel from town to town in a horse and a cart selling his tools. When he sold out of tools, he sold the cart and the horse, went back home to Evansburg, PA, and started all over again.
The 1930's was when Channellock carved out its niche in the tool industry. Chief Engineer Howard Manning invented the multi-position, tongue-and-groove, slip-joint style pliers - Channellocks. The success of the channellock system led to the company officially changing its name in 1963 to Channellock, Inc., after their iconic channellock pliers.
Fun Fact: Channellock has been manufacturing tools out of the same location since 1923.
