The now famous company once started selling a very specific product in 1932. The Demel Company started by selling a razor blade sharpener. Not too long after the initial founding of the company, razor blade manufactures cut their prices leading to the conception of disposable razor blades.
This seemingly career ending disaster turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to the Dremel Company. With a new challenge, Albert J. Dremel invented a high-speed rotary tool with interchangeable bits. It was originally called the Dremel Moto-Tool. Now it is known simply as the Dremel.
In 1993 the Dremel Company was purchased by Robert Bosch GmbH, the parent company of Bosch tools.
Fun Fact: Albert J. Dremel invented and patented the first walk-behind gas powered rotary lawn mower.
